Personal Support for Complex Cases — From Expert Assessment to an Individual Care Route

In a difficult situation, a person and their family often have to solve many questions at once: which specialist to turn to, what examinations are needed, where to undergo treatment or rehabilitation, how to reconcile recommendations from different specialists, and what to do if previous help did not bring lasting results.

I can support the patient over an agreed period: helping to build an individual route, coordinating the psychological component of care and interaction with specialists within my professional competence, and supporting the patient and their loved ones at different stages.

In What Situations Personal Support May Be Needed

The problem has existed for a long time, and there have already been several attempts to get help

Repeated relapses or the return of symptoms occur

Addiction, psychological trauma, anxiety, emotional exhaustion, or a family crisis are present at the same time

The patient needs help from several specialists

Recommendations from different specialists are difficult to combine into a single strategy

The family finds it hard to navigate on their own between psychologists, doctors, clinics, and rehabilitation facilities

Help needs to be organized in another city or country

Increased confidentiality and an individual format are required

The patient or family needs one specialist who understands the whole history of the case and helps keep the route consistent

Not Just Consultations, But a Unified Logic of Support

In the usual format, a person comes to a separate consultation and implements the recommendations received on their own.

With personal support, the work is structured differently. I maintain a holistic understanding of the case history and the dynamics of the condition, regularly assess psychological tasks, and help the patient navigate further steps and, if necessary, interact with other specialists.

At the same time, I do not replace doctors or interfere with their medical prescriptions. Each specialist is responsible for their own professional area.

My task as a medical psychologist is psychological work with the patient, expert analysis of the psychological component of the case, and help in building a coordinated route.

How Support Begins

1
Expert Assessment of the Situation

First, a detailed consultation is conducted. The history of the problem, current condition, previous psychological and medical help, results of past treatment or rehabilitation attempts, family situation, and stress and traumatic factors are analyzed.

2
Defining Priorities

It is important to understand what needs to be addressed first. In one case, the main task becomes psychological work. In another, a doctor's consultation is needed first. In a third, several interrelated problems need to be addressed simultaneously.

3
Forming an Individual Route

After the assessment, the sequence of further actions is determined: psychological help, necessary specialists, possible examinations as prescribed by doctors, treatment or rehabilitation, restorative measures, and subsequent psychological support.

What Personal Support May Include

01

Regular Psychological Work

With emotional state, motivation, behavior, cravings and relapse risk, traumatic experience, anxiety, family relationships, and other psychological tasks.

02

Dynamic Assessment of Condition

Tracking changes and timely revision of the psychological strategy.

03

Help Identifying Specialists

If the problem goes beyond the psychologist's competence, the need for a consultation with a psychiatrist, addiction psychiatrist, neurologist, or other specialist doctor is discussed.

04

Route Coordination

Helping the patient and family understand the sequence of actions and interaction with specialists and institutions.

05

Support for Relatives

Especially important in cases of addiction, severe crisis, or long-term treatment.

06

Post-Treatment / Rehabilitation Support

Work may be aimed at relapse prevention, restoring routine, relationships, and social and professional life.

Support for Addictions

In cases of alcohol, drug, or medication addiction, the problem is rarely limited to the fact of use itself.

It is necessary to consider the person's motivation, cravings and triggers, previous relapses, psychological reasons for use, the family system, co-occurring psychological problems, and prior treatment experience.

Depending on the situation, the route may include the work of a medical psychologist and the involvement of an addiction psychiatrist, and, if necessary, other specialists and specialized institutions. After medical treatment or rehabilitation, psychological support may continue and be aimed at maintaining changes and reducing the risk of returning to previous behavior.

Support for Complex and Combined Cases

Sometimes it is impossible to isolate a single problem. In such situations, it is especially important to determine the sequence of help and not try to address every problem at once without an overall strategy.

Psychological trauma + anxiety + alcohol

Addiction + repeated relapses + family crisis

Chronic stress + sleep disturbances + low mood

PTSD + addiction + difficulties with social adaptation

Get a Second Expert Opinion

As part of personal support, I can help determine what type of specialist or institution the patient may need, and discuss possible route options in Russia or abroad.

The choice takes into account the specifics of the case, the patient's tasks, the need for a particular type of care, the format of the stay, and other relevant circumstances.

The final decision on choosing a doctor or institution is made by the patient or their legal representative.

Russia and International Support

In complex cases, a patient's route is not always limited to one city or one clinic. If necessary, options for help in Moscow, other regions of Russia, and abroad can be considered.

International support may include help in structuring the request, determining the necessary specialist profile or institution, preparing available information about the case for subsequent consultations, and psychological support for the patient while following the chosen route.

Support for the Family

One person's serious condition almost always affects their loved ones. Relatives can live in anxiety for years, try to control the patient, try to save them, conflict with each other, and gradually become exhausted themselves.

That is why, when necessary, personal support separately builds work with the family: boundaries, communication, understanding one's own role, and changing behavior patterns that unintentionally sustain the problem.

Codependency and Support for Relatives

Confidentiality

Personal support is built with special attention to confidentiality and information protection.

The amount of information needed for interaction with other specialists, and the procedure for its transfer, are determined taking into account the patient's consent and applicable requirements for the processing of personal and medical data.

For Executives, Entrepreneurs, and Public Figures

High professional responsibility often makes the standard format of help inconvenient. An executive, business owner, or public figure may find the following especially important:

Flexible scheduling

Minimizing organizational burden

Confidentiality

The ability to receive help in different cities and countries

One dedicated specialist familiar with the case history

The ability to continue support while traveling

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I purchase personal support right away?

It is optimal to start with an expert consultation. It allows you to understand the situation, define the tasks, and decide whether long-term support is actually needed.

How long does support last?

The duration is determined individually. In some cases, a limited period of intensive work is needed; in others, support can be longer.

Can you arrange treatment in another country?

If necessary, an international route and suitable care options can be considered. Medical decisions are made by the relevant doctors and institutions.

Do you prescribe treatment?

No. A medical psychologist does not prescribe drug therapy. Medical diagnosis and treatment fall within the competence of the relevant doctors.

Can you support both the patient and their family at the same time?

In a number of cases, working with relatives is an important part of the overall strategy. The specific format and professional boundaries are determined individually.

Can I continue the work if I am often abroad?

The psychological part of support can be conducted remotely if this is appropriate and suitable for the condition and the specific task.

Is support suitable for a person with addiction after rehabilitation?

Yes, psychological support after treatment or rehabilitation can be aimed at adaptation, working with triggers, restoring one's way of life, and preventing relapse.

When the Situation Is Complex, a Person Should Not Have to Piece Together Help on Their Own

Personal support allows for building a more consistent route: from an expert assessment of the situation to psychological work, interaction with the necessary specialists, and support at subsequent stages.
